Tonight, I had a special guest that has been in involved in the raw feeding and animal health field for well basically since she got out of college. And I want to introduce Taylor to you, owner of Raw Pause, which is no online raw pet food dealer based here in South Florida. And welcome, Thank you, thank you for having me. Oh, no problem.

1:30 If you would please give our audience a little bit of a background on yourself. As always on the show, we ask you to share the show with everybody who can like it, Subscribe and you can add your comments to in the chat bar. So we can answer your specific question. So, Taylor, how long have you been in this industry? I would say I started my company in twenty seventeen, but my involvement in raw foods started when I was probably around twelve or so, maybe ten twelve. My mom is the one who originally got me into it. She's the one who originally met you at the original Fiesta pet Deli, or before it was even Fiesta, And that's how I started to learn about the industry and the ins and outs of dog food and the benefits that a raw diet can provide. And yeah, so since after college, which was twenty fourteen, I started going to the store more and getting more involved with the food, and you know, I just thought it was a great business opportunity and just think every dog should should eat this way. The way I saw it, heal my grandmother's dog from that thing she had weeks to live, days to giving her another two years

3:05 of life. I just with just food. I thought that was incredible. And there's so many stories like that out there that you hear all the time, and food is medicine and I just love to share share that with anybody I can and being able to provide. You know, raw food and natural products is just great and a passion of mine. And I love dogs and I love seeing them healthy and happy, and you know it makes me sad when you know, I used to dog sit a lot, and I see so many dogs on medications and poor diets, and like, if they would just switch to a better diet, all these problems would be eliminated most likely.

3:54 And so you know, I just love spreading the word and and enjoy being around dogs. You know, I didn't know that we started with your grandmother's dog. That's even a surprise of me. Yeah, you know, we started the company in two thousand and six, so I think your mom was probably one of our first clients. Yeah, she said, before you guys, you guys had a booth. I guess that was like the first time when you guys started up. I think my grandmother was the I think like the first person that maybe saw or heard about it. Told my mom that, you know, she's always very interested in anything that's you know, healthier for you. She's always reading ingredients. She's always been like that her whole life. So once she found out about that and she met you and all the knowledge that you share. She was just hooked, and you know, it makes sense. All of our dogs, you know, since we knew about it, have been on it and they've done so well. And you know, we have a lot of bulldogs and I get compliments all the time on how good my bulldog looks, and I say, it's it's such a big thing, is nutrition, and we do try to, you know, straight away from all the vaccinations all of that. You know, she's not a wild dog. She's you know, she she sleeps in bed with me, and she's you know, she's she's not out in the wild.

5:26 So I don't have to worry about our getting rabies or anything like that. So we always try to eliminate anything as much as we can. You know, there's always those outside factors. But I think it shipped, you know, I think it really shows how what a big difference it makes compared to others. And now you you do most of your business online, you're basically a you know, a web type of business. And what led you to go with that that route instead of like I did, the traditional, of course, retail route, which now I'm trying to catch up with you on the digital part of it. Yeah, Well, you've got You've got other channels along with it that make that digital part excellent, isn't that right?

6:18 Yes? So I mean the dog food industry itself. I mean it's it's hard, you know. I know, I see the man hours put into making the food and there was just no way I was gonna be able to get a kitchen, make the food, do all that. You know, I let you do all the hard work. But you know, I just thought, you know, I have a cousin that does website design, so he was able to help me with my branding, my logo, all of that. I do professional videography and photography, so I was able to take nice, high quality pictures of all of the products that I have on my website. But I just wanted to offer, you know, and having a store is just a lot of man. I mean, you have to be in the store. You have to you know, it takes a lot of time. And being able to do it online, you know, if I can, people could buy online, I ship or locally. I do local deliveries. People love that getting you know, it's meal plans, but just for your dog and having that customer service of ordering something and getting something delivered to your door and a nice you know, customize insulated tote bag with ice packs ensuring freshness. People love that and you know they don't want to go out sometimes, so having that delivery is a nice additive. But yeah, I just wanted to do the online store. I thought it was a great

7:51 avenue to get into. And there's so many products, health products that I've been trying to get into to sell more on my website. And yeah, it's it's a growing business. You see all these big brands. Uh, what's the big one. What's the big one on the wrong side or on the side on the pet side, that would be Mars is the biggest right now, I believe it followed by Purina at number two. Yeah, but I'm talking about pet pet they sell everything, Oh yeah, mine like Chewy dot com or you know, you know everyone's it's such a big business. I mean, I think they've talked about the dog food industry is like it they think they's a trillion or the dog industry is a trillion dollar industry.

8:39 But the dog food it's a huge yeah, And and it's growing and you see more dog owners going more of the natural route, whether it be cook meal, plans, fresh food anything. It's the way that you know, it's gonna become more normal to be getting these fresh foods. And you know, I am a big believer in the role. So I like to offer the role because that's how I feed my dogs. That's what I believe in, and so that's what I like to offer. Well, you know, the processing of food, and it's the same with our food as well. I mean you've been you've been at athletically inclined throughout your life. They're in good shape and that sort of thing. Obviously you had to carry over some of these same concepts to yourself. Yeah, yeah, I mean, you know, and I always get a lesson every time I have a conversation with you, and I'm always learning something of just the industry of the food industry, you know, and I learn a lot. There's a lot of documentaries now, I don't know if you've seen the recent documentaries on the food industry, but you know, it's wild and you really, you know, and a lot of people are like that. You know, they're taking tests and seeing their microbiome and seeing what's for them and every human's different, and it's such a big industry and people want to live longer, they want to live healthier, and I mean you are seeing that now that you know, adults

10:11 in their fifties and sixties don't look like their parents when they were in their fifties and sixties. And in my era, I'm thirty one. I know when I'm fifty and sixty, I'm definitely not going to look like my mom at fifty and sixty. You know, I get mistaken all the time for being a lot younger than I am, and it's just, you know, we put it. There's a lot of toxic stuff out there. I mean, I think it's kind of hard to alleviate it one hundred percent because it's just all around us, you know, you hear all the especially with the social media. I mean I see so many funny videos of you know, people trying to go online to get health tips. I'm sure it's like that for dogs and oh this is bad for you. Oh no, this is good for you. This is bad for you. And you're getting all these things from all over the place. So it's hard to be perfect. And all you can do is just keep educating yourself and and you know, doing the best you can. Yeah. Yeah, it's It's the reason that I think the toxicity problem people have a really tough time wrapping their head around is because most of the toxins that we're exposed to are invisible. You know, they're like you know, I mean, it's in the air, it's in the water, it's and a lot of our food. That's sort of thing that we take for granted. We take breathing for granted. But when you look up at the sky and you see those x's and o's and all the chemtrails every single day, you know, and most people think they're just clouds

11:41 and they have they don't want to admit that they're They don't know the truth, and they're not willing to do the research. That's why we're here, you and I, because we do do the research. You know, when we started with the raw food back in two thousand and six down here, we were basically the only raw food company, and you know, we didn't do the jump into the commercial raws. We developed our own because we could see the pitfalls. And part of it was packaging back then though too. You know, there were one or two companies that were doing ten pounds schubbs and you know, if you wanted to feed your rotational diet, which is what's the thing that you recommend. Basically, you had it didn't matter whether you had big dogs or small dogs. You had to go home with fifty or sixty pounds of frozen meat. You had the thought all out, repackage it, refreeze it, you know, in order to be able to do that, And that's how the deli concept actually started. It's like, let's do individual serving sizes for the day and you know, at least make it so it's manageable. And I think that's one of the keys that we do.

12:54 But like I said, with all these invisible toxins, detoxification is an important part of that. I actually did a show last week on detestification, but not just the fact that we have to do it, but how it actually works at a cellular level that you know, basically, those poisons are killing off the cells in your body and you have to replace them, whether it's in the liver or the kidney, the lymphatic system, you know, your heart, your brain. You know, look at the number of people with brain fog today. What's that caused by too much brain followed her? Just too many things that's going on. Yeah, but we don't put two and two together, and at least the average person doesn't. And you know, I get in so much trouble because I try to bring this up all the time. You know, both in the store, you've been in there, you've heard me and from our perspective mine and I'm sure yours as well.

13:43 When you start talking to people about it, even though you've seen the results and you know they'd be quite honest. You with bulldogs, you know, that's kind of a genetic wreck starting to happen anyway. But they're cute, you know, I mean from the start. Yeah, I mean, you know, there's no way that they could run something down and catch it and kill it and eat it like a wolf. But maybe sometimes she goes after lizards, Yeah, yeah, I can see that. But anytime she comes into shore. Also she does a good job of stalking the kitchen. I think she'll find food somewhere. Yes, she always does. But that's the biggest problem is in order to make the dog healthy and ourselves healthy, we have to clean out the system. We have to get rid of those toxins. And you know, of course, you know, we use a lot of herbals and botanicals for that. We use it for parasite control, as you know, you had to pick up some today. It's just a prevention. It's an all natural herb. Can't overdose on it like you can a regular commercial warmer. And of course, you know, it's it's just putting all these things in play. And you know, the food as you are, because that's what you focus on, is probably the number one healer for the body because without good nutrition, how can you rebuild selves? How can you rebuild systems? You know, it's it's it's it's a challenge.

15:16 And of course, you know when we look at the veterinary community with their spay and neuter recommendations that actually change the whole endocrine system, you know, keeping that, keeping that immune system is a challenge. I mean, you've had even personal challenges in that respect that you know you're doing your right. What happened? Right? Weird? Weird? Just no explanation. Yeah, but then again, you don't you know, you know what you at least some of what you've been exposed to. You grew up down here in South Florida. Yeah, yeah, you went to school down here too, yep, so you know, hey, listen, you've got the good clean you know, salt water air, you've got the sunshine, a lot of vitamin D and everything else, and of course some of the best food around.

16:07 I mean, you know, you look at the seafood and you look at the fruits and vegetables of Florida makes and fresh at our disposal than most people. Yeah, and it's still a battle for all of us. I mean, and it's you know, like you say, first off, the comtrails alone, what if they sprayed in the air. Where does it have to go on everything? Yeah, it's wild. And like I said, I was watching the one documentary and one of them was on just the fruits and the veggies and how basically you know, you could try your hardest, but you know, I mean all of the bacteria that's in that. You know, you got to really clean your fruits and vegetables because there's so much chemicals and crap on it. You think you're eating healthy, and you know you're getting sick with all those reports of the samuela, the whole lettuce thing and just different, you know, And it's it's scary out there with the food industry and they have, you know, the regulations and the things that people get away with is wild, and you know, you just have to do your best to alleviate that, you know, trying to buy the best of the best, knowing where it comes from. And yeah, it's it's you know, sometimes its difficult. And of course, you know you get some comments coming up here on the screen. You know that new stuff appeal.

17:36 That's that's that's basically, you know, a preservative that they're putting on your fruits and vegetables. Actually, they're putting it into one of the national natural brands of apple cider vinegar. I won't mention a name because I'm not going to give them any press anymore. That we used to use for of course digestive issues, but also for you know, skinnitche problems and stuff. Now it's going to have a basically a preserve to put on it. That's crazy. Yeah, I mean there's all these healthy products, but then there's they got to put something else in there to make it not falthy or you know, and it's it's frustrating. Yeah, the comment said it can't be washed off. Actually, one of the water systems that we're using now in the store. As I've been telling you, a little bit about it. We can actually make an ionized water that can actually take that off. But you know, these systems are expensive, and you know, you have to learn a little bit about just like our food. I mean, you had to learn a lot about food and what nutrients it has. You know. I'm sure that we're going to get a little over a minute here before the break, but I'm sure that you've gotten along the way the comment that, Okay, if I feed my dog and all meat diet, where do they get the nutrients? You know? Yeah, it's like I asked, but asked that question numerous times. Do I need to add any to the food?

19:00 And I'm like, no, it's a perfectly balanced diet. You know, we offer herbs that you can add as a benefit. You know, I always put herbs in my dog's food, just other things, changing it up all the time. But technically it's not needed to be a well balanced diet getting all of nutrients. And I always recommend changing it up and having a variety because you get nutrients and you know, vitamins and all that from different types of meat sources. Yeah, yeah, exactly and part of the problem and then we'll get ten seconds here is that the veterinarians when they talk about meat that's only protein. He's in North Carolina and he started on the raw right away and he eats about two pounds a day. He's a big boy. Yeah, so this is all the problems. Have some more just other things. You can buy more of my dogs, client of mine. Yeah, you make it fun. Yeah, you know, we try. That's my other brother's dog. That's great. You know some of your your you know you're a little bit of your writing as well. Yes, yeah, so you know, just trying to do some blog posts that I have to keep up more on. Uh. And then that's just like my Instagram feed of things that that I was posting. Yeah, I mean, you know, it's it's nice to see this stuff that that you've done, and you know, you're providing such a service to the animal community at large.

23:56 You know, obviously we'd like to see you grow too. You know, get that word out nationwide. You know you're gonna get out of your brother a little bit about spreading the word in North Carolina. I know he doesn't really get out much, but you know it would be great, you know, because the people that I do get, you know, they'll order and they'll they'll say a customer for a long time forever, you know, detending, you know, and it's nice. I just say. I have the same problem with my family. You know. I got a sister in Buffalo. Uh, you know, too bad the Bills lost again. But you know that's that's the nature up there. We can never win the big one. But and she's in the restaurant business, so she's buying the same thing that I'm buying. And it's like, you need to expand. And then I got my son in Tennessee the same thing. It's like, hey, they need good food in Tennessee as well, you know. But we we just got to spread this word farther than wider. That's one of the reasons why I wanted you on to show. I want you to promote your products. Know you do you do treats sometimes a little bit differently than I do. Yeah, we do. Yeah, we're do them different. So our beef chips it's a combination of sirloin and beef heart and we make meatballs out of it. We push them down so they're like little beef chips and there's parsley in it. We do turkey sticks. It's uh, we did the ground turkey. We put tumoric and parsley as well in those easily broken

25:30 up, so you know, you could do it as a food topper or just as a nice little treat. We do salmon chips, so that's a combination of salmon, and we do whitefish and then we put also tumoric and parsley in those, and they're nice chips that you can easily break and delicious. And then we do chicken bites, so we yeah, and then we also have like other natural goodies we call them. So we have buffalo horns, you know, nice natural chees for dogs and antlers. And then we have you know, as a bulldog owner. They got so many things that you're constantly keeping up weather right now. For Stella, it's her nose.

26:17 She's always got a dry nose, so constantly putting you know, coconut oil or some type of mix, you know, butter with all these herbal things in it, keeping her her nose moist, her wrinkles clean, all these things, so you know, it's just a nice natural thing to put on them. Yeah, I wish you had mentioned that. Did you know your nose problem? And I know sometimes they have flip problems. That's something I don't know. We went to the beach, was it like Monday or Tuesday night, and she did almost three miles, so you know, not all bulldogs, no short little legs. Yeah, you know, she's fast and she wants to be, but it was actually Jesus. I mean, you know, she makes a lot of noises, but you know, I know you absolutely absolutely love them, and you know that shows in the passion that you do for your products. And thatser thing. Before we went to the break, you mentioned something about the rotational diet being you know, important, and that's really how we balance the diet. It's not about a chemical balance that the commercial pet food companies do. And of course I don't know if you've seen any of the news reports that of recent, but this has actually been going on for close to six months. Where are some of the major brands, and it's like almost every brand of dry food right now, both dog and cat are having all kinds of issues because of the supplement that they're adding to it. And you know, we went through that back in two thousand and six, two thousand and seven with a massive pet food you know recall, and here it is twenty twenty four and nothing has changed in that part of that segment of the industry. You know, on our part of the segment, the raw feeding and you know, lightly cooked and real so called real food, and of course that was the name of my the website originally was

30:11 real Food for real Pets, and that's that was our whole mantra. Everybody's getting into that real food market. But it's not the same quality that we do. You know, we're not using industrial beef and you know, chicken frames, and you know the leftovers, the floors, you know, the floor scraps and in the slaughterhouses, the rejected meats. You know, we're doing all U s D. A choice or better. You know, since the very beginning, I said we're whole foods are better. I mean, you want to compare uson I always sell customers like we use It's like, oh what kind of meat. It's like, oh, we use you know U. S D. A like top of the one meat. You know, it's it's it's good stuff. That stuff that you would eat yourself, you know, stuff that you see in stores. It's not you know, some you know, grade C crappy meat. You know, yeah, I mean you're going to Walmart most if you look at most of their meat, it's gonna have a select label on it. Well, I'm using choice, which is the whole step above the people don't know how to even grade be.

31:17 But even in choice, there's like fourth you got choice choice, uh, plus plus plus and plus plus plus before you get into prime. And we're always at the top end of the choice. And we're using whole cuts. We're not using the trim. Yeah. I see it myself when I every time I go in. You know, you got big pieces of meat slabs. You know, you got a whole you know, rabbits and different things. You know, I see it for myself, So you know, I know what my dog is eating exactly, and I know, and that's why I would never want to sell or promote something that I know isn't good, you know, especially for other people. You know, they trust you, and it's a big thing to have that trust and to be able to provide a good, honest product is a great feeling. Yeah, And of course we know you always bring your companion with you, who is your general inspector of quality? Of course, yes, Ella, you know. And the girl's lover, you know, she loves she loves going to the store, and she knows you know, when we go, when we park outside, she's like let me out of this car. I'm going afere. She's going. She loves your biggest your biggest challenge that when you do that is getting your back in your car. Oh yes, she runs away from me.

32:35 She's like, nope, I don't want to go. I want to stay here all day. You know, she she loves it. Okay. I just saw comment up there, somebody asking about skincare products and using bug parts and skincare products in collagen. I don't want to go there. I don't think. Well, I think that there might be some application if you look at the number of pesticides that are that any bugs exposed to today, that runs a separate risk, doesn't it right? You would think so, yeah, okay, yeah, you're back on Oh yeah I thought I thought I didn't know you're yeah no, yeah, yeah, But I mean, do you want to put bug bug parts in your collagen at all? Not at all? You know, they just they just keep adding things. It's like like cricket burgers, right, just always finding out these new things that they're doing, and it's it's crazy. Yeah. I mean the universe was created in a certain way, and you know, everything is there for a purpose, and you know, We don't have to change that purpose, do we? No? No, but you know apparently, you know, they keep wanting to change things and you know, trying to change it, trying to make it better, but it's just compleantly making it worse. And we

34:06 got to find new ways to adjust. You know, it's just a concept cycle. Yeah, I mean, you know, when we go back to the history of dry dog food, I mean, it was two cereal companies, quakeer Oats and at that point, Ralston Purina, who were grain companies, cereal companies that came out with the first dog food they wanted to put us on. They were putting us on the same stuff that you know, we when cereal first came out, we wouldn't eat it because it tasted like garbage. You know, we had to add sugar and milk and all kinds of other stuff to it just to make it palatable. And of course then they started adding sugar and everything else, and which of course is creating its own set of problems with us. We're getting it at a break. I know there are people in the industry that do not quite appreciate what I preached sometimes and sometimes to have you know, somebody younger and obviously with with knowledge and that sort of thing that can help spread the word is a very important part of our messaging. And you know, the more we can spread this word, you know, you've got to. You've got the proof. You've seen it in your own dogs, your family's dogs, and your clients. It's it's you know, let I say, it's a it's a special love that you have to have to do this because you're breaking conventional means. You're flighting a medical basically industry that promotes basically ill health.

38:24 You know, it's all about money. It's you know, I know you're not in it strictly for the money, because we know what the margins are in this business, you know. And yeah, I mean it's not that great. I mean, you're you can people look at okay, you're selling. You know you've got chicken. Well, I can get shicken for ninety nine cents at Walmart. You know, why should I buy yours? You know, how do you deal with those kinds of comments? Yeah, you know it's well, I always tell them clearly you can't just feed your dog a chicken breasts, you know, they can't. You know, it's a combination of a whole chicken, you know, when you go to the store. Yeah, you can maybe get all the different parts of a chicken, which is kind of hard, but it's a combination of meat, organs and the ground bone. It's you know. So I always tell them that, first of all, you can't just feed them a chicken brast. You gotta feed them everything to be a natural balanced diet, you know, and you can make your food. I've had customers, hey, you know, and I put together a whole thing for them and they're like, that's too much, you know, they don't want to make the food. It's it's a lot of work. I mean to the whole you know, the whole pieces, and they'll give them all different parts. But you know, dogs like my dog chill choke. You know, she doesn't have all of those canines that maybe a German shepherd would have, like a breakdown food like that.

39:58 Wow, you know, And that's perfectly fine too to do that route so they can to and crunch everything up. But a lot of people think it's disgusting, you know, they want to ground it up easy. You scoop and you serve and they're done. They don't you know, people are lazy. You know. People want it now. They want the simplest way, you know, and that's what we can offer. And you know, you scoop it from a container, you pick it up, or it comes deliver to you super easy, and we put everything in there that you need. You could always add and other herbs and whatever you'd like, but it's there and it's complete. And if you just do that, you know your dog's going to be a lot better, just like too if you want to take the easiest route. And another biggest issue is educating people. People don't want to learn and educate themselves. I say read this, read that, and I give them all these resources of material that they can read, and they don't want to do it. They just want you to tell them what to do, how to fix the problem, and that's it. And so they trust you and what you're saying tell them to do is a lot of times what they'll do. But you know, you always have clients, oh well, my dog had this or that, you know, and you got to it's constantly coaching them through all those those issues. But you know,

41:30 you do get customers that are great and they know what they're doing, and they know everything, and they educate themselves, and those are the best clients. Now. I don't know if you run in this a lot or not, but generally speaking, and on the average household, you you know, where you've got primarily a husband and wife or a girlfriend, boyfriend live in whatever that For whatever reason, I've noticed that one is always on the holistic nowatural side and the other is completely on the medical side, and that creates a lot of domestic issues. I know, you know, one wants to feed raw and the other one's like, no, my bet said, I gotta do this. Yeah, it's it's you know, you've got to basically sometimes confront them, give them the information. And usually the one that's on the on the conventional veterinary medical side, they don't want to look. Yeah, yeah, it's it's tough, and it's it's one of those topics that people get very sensitive and you know, defensive about, you know, and they don't want to be told that they've been doing something wrong. And I always tell people because then they're like, oh my god, I've been killing my dog for all these years. Yeah, it's like no, you know, you don't know, you're not educated the dog. The pet industry doesn't educate people the way that they should be educated. You're getting your education from

43:04 you know, pet stores that sell the kibble and the horrible treats and the milk bones, and you're getting nutrition advice from your vet who gets you know, minimal nutrition advice when they go to Vetnrian school. They're not nutritionists, and so you know, it's just a combination to set themselves up fu failure. You know, it's the people that go out and you know really maybe have had dogs who they went through some horrible health issues and they they did all the research they could to figure out what they can do, and they keep going back to the vet, and they keep going on new medications and this and that. You know, especially on social media now you see so many dogs and you see so many stories. And then the final the the best solution was they started doing all natural stuff, started doing a better diets, started you know of putting all these different coconut oils and all these different things on their skin and just going completely natural and that cured it most of the time. You know, there's dogs that are set up for failure, like you said, the genetics and the over vaccinations. It's just in their bloodline and it's inevitable sometimes. But if you know, if they can be healthy and happy to the day at the very end, then you've done your parts as a pet owner. Yeah, you know. I remember when we had the start of the original deli and I was behind a deli counter sometimes

44:34 talking to groups of people, and I always remember when I was talking to somebody, what do we need to do? And it's like, you've got You're going to spend thirty seconds basically telling the clients that everything that they've learned from their veterinarian, from their education, everything else is one hundred percent wrong. You made the wrong decision, and you've got fifteen more seconds to move from your side to the table to their side. I can help, it's it's it's that kind of thing, and you know, because people don't want to know that they're doing it wrong. I mean, we've been taught that unless you've got to letters after your name and you've got a white jacket, you don't know anything. And you know, we've seen it over the last four years with what we're not in the medical community. You know who are doctor? You know, I'm just this, you know, young girl that's picked this up and just educated myself through you through other resources. But like, are you compared to a doctor that's been to schools their whole life and educated and you know, so it's you go up against that. Yeah, Now, there was one comment here I want to answer before the before we go, because we're gonna worry. Like about three minutes here is doggy cookies.

It's all the same, you know puppies. And that's a huge thing. Is like the food plans. It's like they have the puppy plan in the adult plant. It's like my dog from when she was a puppy, she was eating the same thing she's eating now. You know, there's only one puppy. There's only one puppy and kitten food and that's mom's milk.
