I'm hopefully going to go over a lot of good information, which is what we need. It's a topic that I run into every day, and in fact, I ran into it again today with a very very specific client, and it's very frustrating for myself and for a lot of my staff when this happens because we're trying to do the best job that we can give you the best information that we can, and that's very, very important to us. The topic itself is why are you afraid to make change? Why are you afraid to break from your normal routine? Why are you afraid of going against

2:18 what sometimes is viewed as the norm. You know, we do it sometimes when in our personal lives we want to be different. We dress differently, you know, women may wear different hairstyles and makeup and things of that nature. But on the other side of that, when it comes to doing functional things, if you will, we always seem to be afraid to make a change. I remember growing up, everybody was skinny and tan, and we used no sunscreen, no sunblocks, no tattoos, none of this stuff. Of course, now we'll take a look at our society and we're filled with all of those things. So we're already making a change from the so called norm. But when it comes to health and well being and lifestyle, why are we so reluctant? Is it one of those cases where we just don't feel we have enough information? Are we over analyzing? Is that part of the problem. It's the term that sometimes use perfection paralysis. We want to have the perfect answer, we want to have the perfect program,

3:50 we want to have the perfect solution, or we don't do anything at all. But yet, when we know that when it comes to health and well being, that there is no perfect because the body is dynamic, it's always changing. And that's true with our pets. And of course, on the other side of that, our pets do not speak in a language that we can understand. For the most part. Because of this, we are playing that guessing game all the time as to what they need, what they want. I mean, I know my own dog will come up to me and just sit and stare what do you want?

4:30 You were just out, you just ate, you've got water? What do you want? And of course, as soon as they see I'm busy, into their bed and go to sleep. Okay, you didn't have to come over here to me and sit in front of me to tell me you're going to go lay down and go to sleep. So I wasn't able to understand, if you will, what they wanted. So because I don't understand, I can't make it change in what I'm doing. Is it that they just wanted more attention? Could very well be I mean that's you know, quite often a very specific thing. Our animals like a lot of attention from us. They want to be the center of focus. And of course the other part of that is is we want to make them is healthy and as happy as can be in the easiest way for us as well. You know, we've spent seventy five years throwing a bunch of dry food and a dish for convenience.

5:45 We don't investigate ingredients, we don't investigate nutrients, we don't invest degate any of this stuff, although we think we are. I remember, up until Bill two thousand and seven, with the major pet food recall and all the animals dying of kidney failure, nobody was really concerned about the ingredients that are in the food. And the suddenly the grain based, the weak gluten meal and things like that that were implicated in that particular poisoning became of concern and we made a little tiny adjustment to that. Grain free foods were coming out, and again we thought that that was going to be the solution to it. But when we look at it, we only need changed probably one two or three ingredient net whole two hundred different ingredient mix, and we expected monumental changes. Well that's only one part of the formula, isn't it. You need do more than just those one or two components now, As I referenced, as I began the show, I had a client come in today. She's not a regular food client. She lives rather a distant away from our store, although there is

7:18 delivery available in her area, but she started dealing with a so called holistic doctor that's literally one hundred and fifty two hundred miles away. So obviously everything's done by telemarketing or tell them medicine. Unless she's driving up once a month, once every two months, once every three months for a consul. Doug has got all kinds of problems. She came in because she could not get her regular food because of the hurricane that we went through, and the dog has nothing to eat, and as far as she knew, our formulations from Biocomplete that we sell at my Paleopad were as close as she could possibly come to being able to fulfill this need. So I thanked you for coming in, obviously, and I started talking to her a little bit about the nutritional facts and what we do and how we do it and everything else, and I touched on the fact that the dog does need a rotational diet. We have thirty some entresier and you just need to mix a matchup. And I was essentially quietly told that, well, this veterinarian has given me a specific food that we need to try, and I

8:51 don't want to change it before our next consultation, so that I don't we don't have to worry about different foods causing different inflammations and different problems and things of that nature. At that point, it's like, Okay, this is what we can do for you. Obviously there was going to be no listening to it because she's made up her mind on a particular so called expert and wants to follow that. I can respect that. However, what was being done does not fit into the purview of what we have found to be successful for decades in raw feeding.

9:45 Just so happens that this veterinarian put it on a specific food that she has made for her. Nothing wrong with that. In fact, she's followed a lot of my guidelines, which I'm thankful for. But the major problem of it was is there is only one formulation that means that this poor animal is going to have to endure a single meal for who knows how long, Meaning if it's a beef for a turkey, or a chicken, or a combination, let's say a beef and chicken blend, that's all that animal is going to eat until the next visit and possibly thereafter. Because if the animal seems to be okay on it, well let's continue on this and let's not kind of mix up the pot, if you will. Well, at some point in time, obviously there's going to be deficiencies formed, there's going to be intolerance is formed, and of course the symptoms of the problems that they have already are going to raise their head and vengeance and

11:17 when that happens, it's back to ground zero. Now would you rely on this same professional to start all over again? I mean, I've dealt with a lot of helistic veats in the past, and you know that's sometimes a problem, especially when your were, for instance, following this protocol that this veterinarian came up with. And since there's a couple hundred miles between her and the client and the veterinarian, what happens on Saturday night when that dog all of a sudden that body says, I'm done with this meal, I'm done with this combination. I've got deficiency starting, I've got intolent starting to rearch, bad head, and you, as a pet owner, panic and go to the local emergency room.

12:15 Everything that you started will be gone. Antibiotics, steroids, hormone treatments, other preventative medicines that you might not want, ve vex, and other types of injectables that you might not want, depending on the facility that you go to. So my advice is that we have to look at a much bigger, broader picture. I know it's frustrating for pet owners because you're looking, you're looking, you're looking, and you're getting so many different expressions of what people think is right. But when you really delve into the science behind it, when you look at species appropriate diets, when you're looking at the nutrient levels that they need to sustain themselves and where they're coming from, it's very very important. You know, I present a lot of information here on this show, and you know I sometimes here, well, where's the scientific proof, where you know, where's a double blind study, where's this study,

13:46 where's that study? I want to submit something to you, at this point in time that this is that research lab. I bring you information. I bring you that based on what we have done in the past on the backside defeeding trials, the combinations dealing with the everything from diabetic to cancer animals to all all immune to sometimes healthy animals as well ages from just born up until very very old and geriatric dogs and cats, literally tens of thousands of animals over the years. You as my core group of people watching and listening both on YouTube and iHeartRadio and Spotify and all our other platforms. You are my peer review board. You're testing this stuff. You're trying this stuff. You're coming back to me saying, Bill, this didn't work with my animal, or this did work fantastic with my animal. And because we're working with a protocol that is dynamic, we have to keep tweaking it, putting it on a single diet, a single narrow protocol. Once

15:20 we started that, the body changes. It may not fit in a day, two days, five days, two weeks. We have to be able to tweak our program as we go along. And this is extremely important. Is my study is my client base, our listeners, a lot of which aren't even our customers of mine listening all over the country and the world, are using their own local producers and processors and available foods to satisfy the needs that they need. So if it's not done in a laboratory, does that make it not scientific? If it's not reviewed by my direct peers, other people that formulate pet foods, all of which have their own ideas. Obviously, you've got several thousand brands of dry food out there. You've got freeze dried foods out there. You've got air dried foods out there. You've got canned foods out there, along with

16:52 a plesthor of raw diets and cooked diets. Each one of them feel that their way is the best, as do I. But I've gone through all the others. I have worked in a plant making dry food. I know most of the people that were involved in that business thirty forty years ago. I've dealt with the canned food people. I've looked at the freeze drying process, which, to be honest, is very very detrimental to your animal because it destroys much of the nutrient value of that food. I've dealt with the other raw food processors. I know the quality of the foods that they use in their foods. I know where they source them, I know what they pay for them. I know why they can sell sometimes much cheaper than I do, why they could be a much more profitable company because they can cut corners, they can buy on the spot market whatever's available, rather than sourcing from single source or reputable sources as we do. So there's a lot of variables here that have come into play.

18:15 I can honestly tell you I have had product command raw materials that come out of very specific processing plants slaughterhouses, if you will. I mean, they don't all have to be major corporations. For instance, one of our slaughterhouses only does like ten to fifteen cattle a week. It's not like a one of these big producers that dominate the industry. But changing from one to another, and the processes and the procedures that they happen to use, the solutions that they might use for cleaning, the chilling methods, the packing methods.

18:58 I've had animals that have gone from perfectly healthy to major diarrhea and gastric issues just because of the change of a single component. And it wasn't changing the component to a different one it was just a different vendor. I've seen that happen in the vitamin and the supplement industry many many times, as various components become short and supply, they go and they have to buy it on a spot market from a different vendor. Again, you don't know how it's grown, you don't know how it's been handled, you don't know how it's been chipped, what temperatures, any other processes that go into it. So we have to make sure that we have to be open for changes.

19:49 We have to keep changing. You know, it's a trial and er process. We find what works, but we don't walk into one thing. Because the body is dynamic. What the body needed today is not what it needs tomorrow. We have to do those rotational diets. And when I consider rotational diets, I look at different herbs, botanicals, dairy products, all of those the same exact way. You all have unique problems with your pets. You're not alone. That's why we're here. And with that being said, I just want to kind of do a little bit of a comparison, if you will, with how sometimes this expertise can be either good or bad or indifferent. For instance, if you take what I've been doing over the last twenty years and even way before that in the pet industry, a veteran of lower fifty five years now, I've seen a lot of changes. I've seen us go from essentially pet stores not even carrying food. That didn't happen until the nineteen seventies and when it came out with all these boutique brands where they could actually make money because part of that, the brands that were out there were all supermarket and it was kind of like a just an add on sale for that supermarket because we didn't have a pet inside the house yet, or we were just bringing them in and starting to do different feedings and things of that nature. So when you look at what I've been doing, Okay, I've gone through the whole dry food,

24:47 Like I said, the freeze ride to cans, all of those to date, and literally with the way we structured our retail initially, which was a real working deli for dogs and cats. We were right there with the customer, face to face, what does your animal like, what don't they like? How are they eating, how are they acting, what's the skin like? In fact, it was open to where they could bring in their pets and we could physically see. We actually had a small clinic within the store for a while, and we also had a veterinary clinic hospital, if you will, So I was getting a wide variety. Now I can tell you that in the hospital part of it, you know, we might get because we were a smaller operation, but when you have to look at it on a per vet basis, you might get a fairly busy. That clinic might see on a per vet basis ten twenty clients a day, and they spend very little time, and of course they're trying to just look at one or two symptoms and one or two problems, and that's what they're trying to solve. In our retail operation, it is not unusual for us to have fifty sixty, one hundred clients a day, and unlike

26:18 in an animal hospital, in a clinical situation. We're in the middle of a sales floor, if you will, or a customer service floor, where not only am I giving advice, not only am I asking questions, and not only is that particular client asking questions, but so are the other clients that are in the store. We're all sharing information. It's not the pet health guru opinion at that point in time. It's a collection of actual experiences. What's worked, what hasn't. I ran into this issue. I ran into this issue. I just I can't believe the tumors fell off my dog. I can't believe he's still alive. We were considering putting him to sleep. Five years ago, six years ago, eight years ago. Our clients are the ones that are sharing this knowledge as well as ourselves, and we're there to help tweak it. We're there to help pick out the products.

I spend a tremendous amount of time sourcing different products that I feel can help our pets, different herbs and botanicals, different meats, putting together and formulating different combinations so that we can get the nutrients that that animal needs into them. Sometimes, I mean I have to be a little bit tough on clients where oh, oh, my dog doesn't like fish, Well, you know what, sometimes your dog has got to eat fish, just like your kids. You can't down to them all. We have to do training as well. So all of this is very very important. I mean, when you take a look and you walk into that animal hospital, I can guarantee you that ninety percent plus you will not see a freezer for a frozen food or a fresh food or a cooked food. All are you going to see is a bunch of different bags lined up, maybe some cans lined up, and you've got basically a very very narrow window of what you can select. And then they make it even worse by telling you if your animal has this particular challenge overweight sensitive stomach allergies, that you can now have to narrow down that food selection

29:00 to that one or two that are in that place. Now, there's a lot of misinformation that's also out there about that part of the industry. Veterinarians do not get big kickbacks for pushing one food or another. They do make healthy profit margins by carrying certain ones, and their kickback is basically in the form of different promotions and discounts and things of that nature. Yes, the salesmen do take them up for lunches and dinners, and of course if you go to any of the trade shows or conventions, there's a lot of different things going on, but for the most part, it's their mindset. They have a very, very singular mindset based on what they've been taught in that school and what the veterinary community itself, starting with the state boards and the so called vendors within that industry, are promoting. And anybody that tries to get in and break that cycle, it is not It is not easy.

30:18 Since we opened what was first a Fiesta Pet Deli and then in my Paleo Pet, I have debt dealt with hundreds of veterinarians, and to be honest, most of them don't want to have anything to do with anything but conventional pet foods because they're afraid to change as well. I know when I first started making the foods, every time I would do a change and something didn't seem to work as well as I thought it should, I would get the little beads of sweat on the back of my neck. Did I do it right? How can I change and how can I make it better? I have learned that I can't be afraid of change. I have to be brave out there. You have to be brave out there if you want your animal to be healthy, if you want your pet to be happy and in its best optimal condition. As I stated, looking at the difference between like our retail store and actually any retail store and the so called professional offices in primarily medicine, you have to realize they are medicine sellers. They're not food experts. I mean I've heard that they don't have

31:49 to be experts and food because the food company itself is the expert. No, you have to know what's going on. You don't have to know the physiology of the animal. You have to know how to fix them. You have to know how they work in order to fix them. And unfortunately that's a sad reality that we have to live with. It does not happen because it's they're not taught that basic physiology. They're not growing from the bays. You know, our food animals, our dogs and cancer carnivores were there. What was our supply chain fed along the way? How was that food raise? Were they reginnerative farms or were they feed lots where they use all GMO grains which cause inflammation. What's the grade of the meat? Did you know that there's probably over twenty different grades of beef alone, ranging from those great steaks that you can buy in the steakhouse. I think in a few specialty retailers such as ourselves, all the way down to industrial that's stuff that's given to prisons and shipped over seas and things of that nature, where they don't they're just happy to have a meal and they don't care about the quality. They're just looking to exist. It. It's very, very tough to get to the place that I'm in

33:21 in the industry. It's been a challenge because a we don't always get what we want. In the last six eight years, the supply chain has been horribles trying to find good foods. We're seeing changes in agriculture that make it more difficult to find good grass finished meats that haven't been shot up with antibiotics and hormones in other chemical compositions. You know, as I saw a thing today.

34:04 You know, where as a society we will accept that tweakies and fruit loops is food and in many cases, hey, it's fairly healthy. It's not killing us. But we cannot accept a product like raw melt or tomatoes that are grown in a organic garden with composts around them. Oh my god, we just cannot do that. We have got such blinders when it comes to some of this stuff.

This is Bill the Pet Health Guru, and we're talking about why is it so difficult for us to change and what do we need to do in order to give our animals and ourselves the healthiest, happiest life that we can do. And you know, I've you know, kind of shown you the differences between the different communities. The community in a hospital is totally different than that in you know, the dog club or the glee club or anything else, because you were all about life, like minded people at that point in time. Now, I want to bring up one other point here in this last segment that is really really important when it comes to listening to the experts, and again I want you to I would love to see those some of your comments or questions in the chat room. All these major food companies and pet food companies, supplement companies, they all come across that all this research and exploring that they do to come up with products to make our lives better, our pets lives better.

38:36 And yet we see in a daily basis reports of contaminations, of recalls, in other issues related to these foods. How is that possible? If they're doing the third party testing that they say they're doing, if they're sourcing the best quality ingredients that they say they are doing, if their process is perfect, how could we have these kind of issues?

39:20 You know, with the bigger the company grows, the tougher it is. I know, for principles like myself to control it, to watch every step along the way. But that's what has to be done because we're dealing with life and consequently we're also dealing with death. So how is this contamination? You know, we're seeing about all these problems with Listeria e coli salomonella, and it's almost always on the highly processed foods, especially on the animal side. But let's take a look on the human side. One of the biggest brands of luncheon meat, of processed sandwich meats and provisions in the country just had to close a whole plant because it was so badly contaminated and people were getting sick eating the product. That process was so highly according to them, inspected and controlled that we should never have a problem with it. However, now I can tell you on the other side of it. When I deal with natural products, raw mel raw dairy products, raw meats, all

40:55 of these things, can we encounter problems? Yes, absolutely, there's always that issue based on how they had the product is handled from start to finish. Just to kind of give you an idea, we had somebody call about a raw milk product and that it wasn't meeting their expectations. There was nothing wrong with it. We had tested the product in the house ourselves. But when you're looking at something like raw drry, you also have to look at temperatures, how it was kept, how it was transported, even from our store to your house. I've literally had clients come back and say that they got cooked eggs from us.

41:50 Truth of the matter was they left the package in their car for hours in the hot Florida sun, and yes, it did literally cook the egg. But as soon as I got this call that okay, maybe it's got enough smell or enough taste or and of course, you know, our taste buds can change considerably even throughout the day. We actually replace our tastebuds every three days, so what tastes good on one day may not taste food on another day. If that's what our body says we need or don't need at any given time. So I immediately decided to do a check on our system, which means I'm really checking up on the employees as well. Grab my laser thermometer and checked my walk in cooler. The milk in my cooler was at thirty four degrees. The milk in my retail cooler where the customer pulls it out, that milk was thirty point five degrees. I almost wanted to put up a sinus. You know, you may have to shift the ice off of it because we keep these things so cold. But people won't realize. Okay, you put it in your car and it's in there for an hour or two, and then they put it on the door of their refrigerator, which is the warmest part of the refrigerator. And actually, if you test most refrigerators, they're running around fifty degrees. That's a twenty degree temperature

43:25 difference between where they bought it and where they store it, and after several days in the refrigerator, it's going to oxidize. Even as far as again, I'm going to go back to the raw dairy because it's one of the most easy things to see. If you buy a gallon of milk for the week, halfway through the week, that gallon is going to be half empty. That means that container contains fifty percent air. Now, I know that we don't spend enough time talking about clean air because we use some clean air products, but we don't spend enough time doing that. The air in our house is contaminated. So we seal up that container of milk with contaminated air and wonder why it doesn't taste the same after four or five days, Why it might turn sour? Might it might just be have a different smell uniqueness to it.

44:45 We're creating that. We have to think about the way we do things. So we have to make changes in our life, and it means buying two half gallons and spending that extra dollar a week. Isn't it worth it? Or I could take the same milk and they had a bunch of chemicals to it so that it never changes, It doesn't break down, it's not going to deteriorate, it's not going to sour and give it a three or four week shelf life. But what are you drinking? Chemicals?

45:26 Are chemicals? Are these synthetic chemicals healthy for your body? Are they healthy for your animal? Average bag of dry dog food is designed to sit on the shelf for two years without breaking down. How is it going to break down in the digestive track? Have raw diet? When you put it down, it better be gone in the first five minutes. That's the way the animal is supposed to eat. And that's what we want to learn here tonight is that you have to start looking at what the whole collective set of values is. We have to look at what the community is saying, not one or two experts.
