You know, I've known you Bill, I've been a customer of you, of yours for sixteen years. I figured out and you know, throughout the years I've seen not only the pet health guru, but Bionic Bill is what I call him. Because he's all over. He's humble, and he's honest and you know, highly intelligent. If you meet Bill in the store, you will notice he doesn't stop talking because he just loves to educate you.

2:55 He loves to tell you about everything that's necessary for yourself and your And when I first met you Bill, sixteen years ago. I was highly impressed. I mean, my pets have been on the raw food, and I didn't know all about the other parts of your store. So I thought, you know, what a great idea to celebrate your twentieth anniversary by telling people how you really got started. Because it wasn't always my Pet Paleo Pet. It was Fiesta Pet Deli when I first met you. So why don't you. Tell your audience and remind me of how it all happened when you, you know, well.

3:37 We started out. I had this idea well before we ever started the deli, because I always fed my animals my food, you know, and I'd like to eat good quality food, good clean food. And it I had presented it actually to almost all the major players in the industry, because you go back twenty years ago, the up and comers were, you know, the pet Smarts and the pet cos and the pet supplies plus and I was a manufacturer's rep and so I approached them with an idea of raw food and actually doing I don't know where it came from. Maybe I was drinking too much one night, but you know, a real deli because deli's were really big back then too, and.

4:23 You know a lot of a butcher. No, not even like a butcher, more like a deli, like you know you go into like, oh, I'm trying to think some of the delis in New York, you know that were like the Carnegie which you know, the sandwiches piled four feet tall and things of that nature. So why not do a fresh kidn't? Of course those were all done with really fresh ingredients and these better delis and everything else, So why don't I just do a deli? And we kicked it. I kicked it around for a while, and then I was working with a partner who was a veterinarian, and I said, this is what we need to do. And it was funny because it was like the end of the year, first of it in January. I'm just playing with the idea and I going in and I was I had already been looking for two or three years at deli equipment, all the equipment that's involved in it, if I was going to do this, And a deli case came up on eBay for under for under one thousand dollars. Now I'm looking at four or five thousand dollars delly cases. Wow, And it's like okay. So I'm watching it and watching it and watching it, and nobody did on it, and I down to I get down to the very last moments, okay, like half hour, fifteen minutes, five minutes. And it's like, okay, because you know, eBay can be funny sometimes because you know everybody wasats a last minute so that you're the one that wins it. So I'm waiting and waiting. I

5:56 get down to under two minutes. Wow, and I got my finger on the mouse. It comes down. It comes down to one minute, and it's like, okay, I know the Internet twenty years ago too. You remember Internet wasn't as well. What I'm saying to mice back then. So I finally clicked it, and I got a blip I did not go through, and I immediately hit it again. Ten seconds later, literally ten seconds later, I get a message you have won the deli case.

6:36 Well that's that was the start of your whole life. Oh my god, there was a change of the life. Oh you said it was manufactured. To interject Bill, So are you saying that you are the first person to create raw dog food? Are you the moe? I mean there was there was raw dog food out there and actually, but the thing was is it wasn't very popular and you had trouble getting it in South Florida. If you bought a raw food, it was normally in a ten pound log which you had to schlep home and saw out and put it into individual packages. And of course my concept of a rotational diet, and my partner had cats, she had six cats. Well, in order to do a rotational diet, I would have to buy sixty pounds at a time. So it's like, this is crazy, this is too much work.

7:32 Who is selling that? Was that? Those were the commercial companies that's still out there. They've all been sold about nine times so far to investment firm and stuff like that. But I had previously been working with as a wildlife group and we were doing rescues on lions, tigers, Florida panthers, things of that nature. So I was already had perfected some of my recipes, if you will, my entrees, and I knew about the rotation. What are you saying, you know. I mean they were getting good food and so, and I was also making some of our own and I knew the issues with buying, you know, buying pre made had to buy a lot, but also been making my own.

8:16 I couldn't get a lot of components in small quantity. You know, things like you know, beef hearts and pork cards. You don't find them in a normal supermarket. So it meant looking in the meat purveyors and buying large quantities. Some of that stuff comes in sixty pound boxes, and it's like, what are we going to do with all this stuff? So that's kind of how the deli started to fall together. And of course now I've got you have won a deli case, and I lived in the townhouse where am I going to put it? Ran out the next morning and this was a Sunday evening, Monday morning. We signed the lease in a small basically an incubator if you will. That is what they were calling them back then for businesses where you had small spaces. We were into a ten by ten space going to have And the funny thing is is the Delly case was also in Miami, so it was close by it. I didn't have the ship from California or so. It was destiny.

9:08 So anyway, I'm in there measuring and everything else, and I get it. I put a sign up. It was it was in a farmer's market and it was going to open, and I get a phone call because I had a phone number there for inquiries, and it happened to be somebody else in the same mall that was closing their store, and it was in the same farmers market, but it was three times the size, and I got I got on the phone with my partner. I says, call a leasing office, see how much they want for this. We'll give it to you for the same price. Because no business has ever survived there. Well, it's because it's right, but it was because of the layout, because it was kind of a cut through into the farmer's market, and everybody that was in there was selling uninteresting things, let's say, very very niche items, and you're not interested in it. Well, when I set up to Delhi, set it up so you couldn't see it from the main part of them all, and I had where you could see. Back then, we carried different commercial foods and so people were cutting through to go to the farmer's market to get to the vegetables.

10:14 And I've had a meat counter right next to me, I remember it. Yeah. Yeah, people would go by and they'd stop dead in their tracks after they're out of my store and turn around and go like what is that? And the curiosity because birds and yes, I remember you had pets. Yeah, all kinds of stuff. So that started the journey. And in fact, it's funny. On our first day that we opened it, we were supposed to open on April first, that was a Saturday, and I said, I'm not I'm not superstitious, but I'm not going to change that. So we opened literally a week early on the weekend. I didn't have half the products, were not priced, nothing else, and we're sending a cash registry yet use the drawer.

11:02 Would change in it and it was it was. It was so funny because my partner would yell out, okay, how much for this and I go five dollars, ten dollars, I. Remember, organ and it was that was great, you know, yeah. It was. It was comical. I mean I had a lot of different products and the regular pet supplies because I had been a distributor of pet supplies before in that business we had closed and so I had a lot of you know, I had to fill in holes and stuff like that to put it together. Well, what about the name, so Fiesta Pet Telly was that because the it was a fiesta, like, it was a. Festival, flea market, and I'm trying to think of it going to be a catching name. Well, let's let's do a fiesta. We're gonna have a fun party. And that's how it felt. That's how that fell into it. And I mean we just started running. I'm standing behind a deli case. You know, if you've ever been in like a in a in a good Italian or Jewish, you know, you always got the showman that's behind the deli.

12:03 Oh you need this, Yeah, you need this, come on, you. Know, And I started talking about I started talking about health, and then it was intriguing. You know. That's how that part of it started. All the health stuff started to come in, and I did. We did more and more research and moved from that store into almost a three thousand square foot store. Was in two years in the mall and we were one of the anchors, and I had several deli cases, we had walk in freezers, you know, glass door freezers, all of that plus all the accessories. And it was funny because the mall would not let pets in the mall unless unless their feet were not more off the floor, you could have them in a bag or whatever. Well, of course, that's about the time that the stroller phrase hit. I started bringing in strollers so that by customers whould come in with their dogs. At one point I was the largest resale retail sellar of pet strollers in.

13:10 How many years? Because I didn't I don't remember the pet stroller part. How many years was that. We were we were in We started out just with a few. At one point I had like twenty five different styles. And that was actually still in the original store that we started, because we had added a kiosk out front where we would keep one or two strollers out there because there was space restrictions. But that was also our clothing store four past. How long did you stay at the Fiesta Pet Deli before you moved it to Pet My Paleo Pet. We were in there approximately fifteen years. The building had been sold. They were making all kinds of changes to it, many of which were detrimental to our location. Lost a lot of traffic that and in the mall itself was losing traffic. And I saw the handwriting on the wall, and I wanted to move. I looked at a center once before because oft least you know, when you're doing least negotiations and stuff like that. And I didn't move the first time to where I am now because they told me that they were changing some of the buildings. Well, when I moved in, in front of my store is ahuah Wah, So anybody from up north knows that's where you get coffee and your gas, and so we moved in there. It's been We're just entering really our sixth year in that location, our twentieth year.

14:36 How did you come up with the name my Paleo Pet? You went from Fies the Pet Deli to my paleopt. Well, we hadn't change it from the Delhi anyway, because we no longer were doing a deli concept and we were changing our the way we made our food into more production based. You know, the Delhi, you're making small quantities all day long, and so we changed that over. And the ironic part of it was is that we we moved the weekend that Florida closed down for the pandemic. We never closed. We actually missed one day of production while we were moving stuff, and I had I had several customers that were on the uh County Sheriff's department, and I asked one of them, I said, I might going to be considered an essential business because we were, you know, we were didn't know what was going to happen at that moment in time. And he says, damn right, I got to get my food from you. So we never got hassled, learned the whole thing, and we never shut shut our doors. We were open. We were one of the few retail stores that were open in the area.

15:40 Wow. And if I stayed with it, if I hadn't done that move, we would have been we would have been dead in them all because they closed the whole all down. Back a minute, Dale, So how did you get my Palaeo pet? How did that come up? That was kind of we started throwing out names. Had a couple of consultants. I was working with my accountant and of course my PR person you know who you know, you know, puts together everything for the show, all the advertisements and stuff like that. And it just we were looking at what the diet really was and Paleo was just coming into its own on the names, you know, on a recognition scale, and hence my paleopad.

16:21 And when we moved in. We only we. Set up our retail priority that was over two thousand square feet. We narrowed it down to a thousand because we didn't know where business was going to go and it so I got rid of almost all the pet supplies and we started to focus on the food and of course food deliveries, and we already had quite a few of and as that started to change, of course people were going to even the vets offices then because you know the restrictions and everything, and I became the source. You know, we started increasing the number of herbs we did. I did your herbal formulations, all of that sort of thing.

17:02 I'm sorry, how many herbs would you say you had at that moment in time? We had probably about sixty or seventy that we were active with when we moved into that store. Now we're up to And did you know that those herbs were also going to be for people? Did you have that in mind? Yeah? Yeah, I knew that. I was already doing a little bit with people because I had my customers coming in and complaining that their dogs were eating better than they were, and uh, you know that of course, those we were doing a lot with cancer at that point in time, we were really one of the forerunners in understanding the basics of it and how to do how to let the body heal itself.

17:46 And so that started to expand we expanded our meat supply to include more for people. I had been doing it in the old store, but we expanded that into our farm table up that we have today, you know, with the pasture raised eggs and all the raw dairy and actually truly pasture finished meat products, meat proteins, chicken, beef, lamb all of that, and that is kind of taken off and changed that the whole dimension of our business and probably close to a third of what we do today is nutritional programs for people as well, because they have the same problems, you know, and medication, we know, has a lot of downfalls, all the side effects, the and as that we learned in the pandemic, as I put it, most of the medical field really we learned that we don't know very much about our own bodies.

18:47 And that started to drive me in a whole different direction. And you know, you today I see as many people as I do pets. We're going to be right back after this quick message. I can't believe it's been that long. I blink in years gone. I can't believe we're in March already. It's like crazy, isn't it.

21:44 Yeah, go by very quickly in the blink of an eye. That's why we got to take care of ourselves and enjoy the most that we have today. And you know, live in the moment. People not wait till tomorrow. Enjoy your lives. They know that already. We're not here for that tonight. Bill, will you. To talk about your success and how you're going to leave a legacy, and how this movement is going to catapult into even more and how we're going to have more followers and more people who believe in what Bill has put out there, you know, And not to bring up the news or anything, but the fact that Kennedy is doing what he's doing. I mean, I've been on board for you know, forever to have the food being changed, especially for kids at school, because as an educator, I just can't watch it anymore. I can't see these poor children eating this food. So you know, you're doing it on the pet side, on the people's side, and I'm right along with you. I want this to be the biggest movement ever. I want us to walk alongside that Kennedy and keep going.

22:55 Well, the interesting thing about what you're saying with this too, that actually lends itself right to it. When we go back fifty sixty years. I've been into business for sixty years, and back then, our dogs and cats were primarily outdoor animals. They had they had to work, you know. The dogs were there for guarding or hurting or different things of that nature. The cats were keeping them the rodents away from the house. And when we fad, we weren't using commercial foods. We were actually making our grandparents made extra food for the animals that wasn't leftover like people throw around out there today while they were eating leftovers, you know, No, they weren't leftovers. They were actually made for them. And then we started bringing our dogs in and we started, you know, pampering them and you know, the coats and the boots and the clothing and all that, the fancy collars and all of that. But the interesting part of that is we went for convenience on the food side, and basically the nutritional aspect of it has the line probably a bout fifty seventy five percent. Our longevity of the animals has gone from dogs living twenty to thirty years down to eight to ten, you know, medical care.

24:11 There was no medical care. Basically, it was all emergency medicine back then. And now you know, every time you turn around, another dog is going into a shelter being set up for adoption because we cannot afford the vet bills anymore, and the dog is continuing. If they would listen, right, I've been feeding raw for at least sixteen years that I know, Bill, and my dogs do not. My cats do not take any drugs except for what I had to. When I went and got them from the shelter, they had already gotten their shots. I couldn't help that, unfortunately, but feeding raw protects them.

24:54 You know. I walked through the wooded areas in my neighborhood and they don't have I don't put any chemicals in my dog's body, you know, at all. I mean, I don't give them. I do the heartworm herbs that I buy from you. I put that over their food maybe once or twice a week. I do Fusion fourteen, which is some mushrooms, and that helps. You for cancer. But I do not do fleean tick. I do not do. Any of those heartworm medicines. I do not want a dog that's going to die, I mean, I love my pets death like all of you. I'm sure they are my life. They are my big and I do not want them sick. So for every lump and bump and every little oh, my dog, the hair fell out, you know, I don't do that. I have other remedies that I do as well, and we'll discuss that a little bit.

25:52 But so let's go back to your beautiful twenty years of success. And it has been success. And you know, kudos to you, Bill, because not many people have the stamina or he gots basically to go out there and put your you know, your name, your whole being on the line for the sake of animals. You know, So I applaud you. I know your audience applauds you. You're just one of those. You're the guru. I mean you that name Where did that name come from? Actually came came when we started the podcasting. I was doing podcasting before podcasting even existed. We started with internet radio and everybody said that this was we're we're in our eighteenth broadcast here. We are the oldest online podcast in animal health in the world.

26:48 And so how did you get that started? Well? I met actually the owner of our stations. I was interviewed by him on another show before he even started the company, and when he started to come his company, his broadcast company, he says, why don't you take a spot, nurs. I'll cut you because he's starting out, so he's going to cut me a really good deal. And it's like, okay, because I enjoy I enjoyed the interviews that I was doing and explaining, you know, my my concepts and everything else. I was getting beat up in the store, you know, with the usual my vet said, and it's like, you're you know, I didn't you know, basically when you came into my store. You know, most people were feeding kibble.

27:29 Most people were following whatever the veterinarians, you know, suggestions were, whatever their protocol is, and they made this decision and I had to basically say you're wrong. I had to tell them that they made a bad decision, and I had to do it in such a way that I could. Then I'm sitting across if you visualize it, I'm sitting across the table and saying you're wrong, You're bad. You know, you shouldn't be doing that. And then somehow transition to being sitting next to them being their best friend. We can make your dog healthy. And we started seeing more or cancer. That was a big, big part of it. And a success rate that I had with UH allowing the body to heal itself, to get rid of those cancers that were just suddenly cropping up. That that went, That went a long way. And again it is you know, I have a use my background and animal science. I have an under a better understanding of things like physiology than veterinarians do. And and you know, it's interesting because you know, a doctor, a veterinarian is supposed to be.

28:30 You know, the meaning of doctor is teacher. And I don't know nutrition. Doctors don't even know physiology. And my point is, if you don't know physiology, if you do not know how the body works, how can you ever fix it? You can't. You can you're reading off man. You can give some suggestions, I mean, I've heard I've heard a lot of stories just piggyback off of that. When I adopted my golden Doodle, which I would never do, but my daughter said, I, oh, Mom, let's do it. I adopted her from a place I won't mention, and they made me sign something saying you will feed this kibble for the first year.

29:16 Or we won't be. Able to cover certain expenses. Of course I didn't do that. You know, as soon as I got the dog, I was like, all right, raw food and I didn't care. Yep. I know it's it's really and it's tough, and I mean it hasn't changed in this twenty year period. I mean we're still seeing the disease of the month. Whatever they highlight on the on the medical journals, that's what every dog now has, and they actually give them points as to how to sell their protocols. Suddenly we got we get a whole bunch of cases in the last two weeks with possible kidney failure and the whole emphasis is on low phosphorus foods. Of course those are all sold by the clinics themselves, okay, And it's it's interesting because they bash the well, if you're feeding a raw diet that's all meat, that's one hundred percent protein, No, you're moron. Raw meat is only eighteen to twenty percent protein.

30:22 It's about eight percent fat. So it's a low fat diet compared to processed foods. Also, processed foods a little bit of carbohydrates. That's why when you put that steak or those ribs on the grill, they caramelize, so you still have that it's a biologically appropriate meal for a carnivore. And so that whole protein thing is nothing, of course, because it you know, when we look at minerals like like uh, phosphorus. Okay, if it's a in a food, a living product, it's digestible or it's screted. If it's a synthetic, the body has no clue what to do with it. And the other thing is is that when you're feeding a raw diet, and we do a raw rotational diet, because every food brings different things to the.

31:07 Table, that meal is seventy. Percent living water, so you're going to be flushing out to kidneys instead of clogging them up with ultra processed food and dehydration. Go back and explain to your audience rotational diet so they understand what that means. Okay, Yeah, I've had to kind of revise that a little bit because I realize a lot of people don't understand what I mean by it. That means basically, even in our. Own life, we should eat different foods every day, on a rotational basis. So one day, if you're eating meat, you're gonna do chicken, you're gonna do turkey, you're gonna do beef, you're gonna do some fish for your protein sources. If you're more vegetarian or more omnivore, you're gonna vary your vegetables a lot more and your fruits because every time you first off, every food brings in a different set of nutrients. So that's how we actually balance somebody because we're getting a little bit here, a little bit there.

32:02 But on the other side of that, every time you change, you also get individual cleansing. So a lot of people think involved if I'm buying six different meals from my paleopad and I mix them all together, it's going to be perfect. No, if you're actually defeating that cleansing part of it, which is also very very important, and it's give. Them an example. I'll give an example. So I'll buy there's an eco blend, and the eco blend I get maybe twenty containers of something that's you know, there's the beefliver, there's the chicken liver in there, there's right, So I won't use that every single day, I will go to another product that I bought, maybe chicken and turkey, and I'll put that for the second day, and maybe the third day I can come back to that first product.

32:51 Would that be that. Yes, there's a good way to describe it. And you know, I tell you know. Of course you mentioned our eco blend. I do things to keep it a flo for people because people think that feeding raw is so much more expensive. But when you're looking at some of these designer foods that are on the market now, and especially freeze driede which is nothing but freezer burned food that they're charging a premium price for that we used to throw out if we found it in our freezer. You know it's it. It can be very economical as long as you're doing it the right way. And just like people, you know a lot of people, they'll they'll eat a cheaper protein during the week you know, chicken or you know, something of that nature, and then on the weekends theyse blurted with a good steak. And that's what we tell our dogs that do it as well.

What do you see on the horizon? Do you see anything else for my paleo pet? 36:58 But you know, we have a ton of celebrity vets and of course the latest is on me with our farm and the table are good grass fed, pasture raised Florida meats that every single I think every farmer out there is now putting up a you know, by direct from the farm, add on you know, on social media, and it's basically you know, I've been doing this, like I said, for twenty years, and. You always used the same company or you change throughout the year. We changed companies actually, to be honest. And when it comes to the meat companies and that sort of thing.

37:40 In the food industry as well, there's been a lot of consolidation. So the companies that we brought from were both brought out by other companies, and we've had several major national companies that folded up. I mean, you just couldn't do it, you know, everybody wants to get bigger, bigger, bigger, but it doesn't always work. I mean, I've had opportunities that I could have sold out or partnered with even meat suppliers, but I wasn't willing to compromise the quality that I was doing. As to mention that Bill, because the audience needs to know. Bill researches everything high and low, and that's why I buy my food from you, because I know that I can trust the quality. You know, and I do my own research, and I've researched everything he has and I trust it. I wanted to piggyback before about the price of things. You know, people are worried it's going to cost them a lot. Well, because I do feed raw food.

38:44 I mean, you know, I don't want. To put so many negatives out there because I'm not a negative person. But my animals don't get sick. I don't need to bring them to the vet. I basically take care of them with the raw food. And you know, if you take a medium sized dog, okay, it eats a pound a day okay of raw food nothing, you know that that might be when I look at the price of the premium protein kibbles, and then I start to look at the price of the freeze drides, which again are dehydrating. You know, even if you you know, if you're buying a higher quality meat, it might cost you fifty cents a dollar more a day, maybe two dollars more a day, however, and nobody can afford that.

39:30 But you know what, at ten o'clock at night, when your dog is down and out because of what the vet has already done previously, you always have that. You know, it used to be five hundred dollars at an emergency center. Now it's now they want sometimes up to ten thousand dollars in advance. And it's ridiculous. You know, you want convenience, so you're buying kibble this big bag, you're lugging it home. It might be convenient, it might be easy, but so is raw. I mean, all I do is defrost it. I put it in their bowl twice a day. I mean, it's not that hard. People. You know, we have to have priorities. What do we want?

40:10 Do we want our pets to be? Well? You know, for me, when my pets are happy, I'm happy. When I'm happy, they're happy, So why would I want to, you know. Go to vets. It makes them scared, it makes them nervous. I don't believe in all those. You know, No, you know when you look at even you know in the testing. I mean, you know, because we've got all these fancy machines. Now we have to do all these tests. But at the end of the day, you're still diagnosing the same things. You're treating with the same drugs procedures that you would before. But your wald is a lot lighter. And you know your doctor just went out and bought a nice Porsche. It's baby steps Bill, And you know, people just need to communicate with us. Communicate with you at the store.

40:58 We will help you. You know, do it. If you go into Bill's store. The girls are great. They will help you. They will tell you what to get. You can call you say how many pounds your pet is and they'll tell you what you need. They ship it to you. I mean, it's not that hard. It's easier than making your own dog food. I used to do that for a while, and that was that was not fun. You know, blood all over the white cabinets and five hours of making food and not to mention the time it took to buy the food and then it wasn't even quality, so. That you know, that's that's exactly right. And you know, coming into the future, you know, there's a lot of exciting things. Because I'm not part of the medical community.

41:45 In fact, I'm actually shunned by the man. They would rather silence me, and I've been silenced on a number of platforms shame. But I look at a lot of alternative technologies today and there is some stuff that's been out there. In fact, it's funny because when I look at it, I'm finding the actual uh you know, appearance of it in the in the healing realm that they'd spack one hundred, one hundred and fifty years ago when before there was medicine. You and a good example of that, and that he actually had a client today. Tell me this that people look at especially on the herbals, they're looking at herbs being a supplement and or a medicine, you know, herbal medicine.

It, they designated that so they could make it sound bad alternative And you know, I preach it all the time on this show when I'm talking to clients that it's you know, well, what's the dosage? Well, if you're a steak eater, what's the dosage of a filet mignon? You know, it's like what you want to eat and also when you eat. You know, this is the other thing when it comes to raw diets to hire the quality to meat, the less you're going to eat because it's nutrient dense. And that's why I'm so particular with where I source out my meats and how we process that.

43:11 We use whole cuts rather than pre done stuff. Our process is quick, easy in the grinder, gets cut in a grinder, in a package, and in a freezer. That whole process, that meat isn't out for more than probably fifteen to twenty minutes, so we're maintaining the highest quality there. It's basically set up in a hasseup format, which is good clean housekeeping like a human factory is supposed to be, although a lot of them aren't anymore. We're finding that out with of course, news reports is coming out about recalls and that sort of thing. And when you look at the differences between kibble and raw food, kibble has millions and millions of pounds recalled every years after the top perfection, you're already at the top, Bill, What else can you do?
