And tonight's topic as we previewed and have promoted all week, you know, being the first of the year, and you do a little bit of reflecting on what happened in the past year and over your lifetime, and with me, it's no exception.

1:52 I do the same thing and looking over at the animal health industry as a whole. Of course, I've been involved in the pet industry, in the animal health industry for over fifty five years, both on the pet side and on the veterinary side, on the animal health side, and a little bit of work with farm animals and exotic animals, zoo animals that sort of thing as well. And I've seen a tremendous amount of changes that have occurred in the space that we call animal health. My question when I was doing some research is how have we gone so wrong with the health of our animals and when did it really start? And when you know, are there issues that we have control over that we need to maybe take back and redefine, if you will, so that our animals can be healthier and happier at best, you know, which means we're going to have to start turning over rocks and you know, looking really really deep into what we've done in the last fifty or sixty years.

3:04 It's it's interesting to me that when I go back in the beginning of my career, keeping animals was very very simple and basic. You know, you fed the animals, you walk them, they eat, they poop. You know, if you really uh into the hobby, you might be you know, engaged in a breeding program so they have babies. And our animals were all very very healthy then, with dogs living over twenty years in many cases as a natural life, and cats even up over thirty years. Most of the vet visits at that point in time were primarily because either you got a brand new animal and you just wanted an assessment basic physical all to make sure that you know, you got what you paid for. Accidents, you know, Heaven forbid, but they did happen, you know, things like car accidents, getting hit by a car, hit by a tractor, piece of equipment, and you know on the farm. UH had a dog myself that when it was a puppy, had a little end of the tail that was white, and obviously we called the dog Tippy until it was running out the door with aluminum storm door screen door closing that took that white tip off. So obviously that

4:34 did require a little bit of veterinary care. But that was the type of accidents that would happen. And to be honest, most of the end of life stuff occurred at home. They would just pass pass away in their sleep. And you know, back then, you know, we disposed of them, usually in the backyard, planted a tree or memorial to them. And uh, it was very very simple. We didn't have annual checkups, we didn't have semi annual checkups, we didn't have a host of all these so called preventative procedures and drugs and products. And I asked the question is like, why are we seeing so many more diseases in our animals today than we did fifty years ago, forty years ago, even thirty years ago. It's a rather profound question when you look at from the perspective of time. Our pets used to be inexpensive. Now, as many of you pet owners and pet parents know, the cost of veterinary services is gone through the roof, and you have to ask yourself, is this really necessary? Is everything that we're doing really necessary.

5:54 When I was early in the career, if your dog got fleas, generally at the end of the summertime, and you know, it was a one or two step proposition to eliminate them. You know, maybe a flea spray, maybe a flea bath. You know, you may use a little bit of spray in the environment as well, but it was kind of like one and done today. I mean, if you stop and think about the amount of money that is spent on so called preventatives, you know that are all chemically based, and yet we hear all the time of major infestations in the house on the animal, that it's impossible to get rid of all these fleas.

6:41 And you know, we have to ask ourselves why is that happening? Why is it so much worse today if we are doing all this preventative medicine. My investigations show a lot of different things, and we'll get into them as we show progresses, but that happens to be one of the main areas that is of concern. One of the other very profound things is when you go back more than sixty seventy years ago, our pets weren't said commercial foods basically whatever we ate is what they ate. Mom Grandmom would make sure that there was enough extra food in the pots or if a meal, to be able to keep our pets happy and healthy as well.

7:28 And of course commercial pet foods came along and we were sold on the convenience of it, and then of course we started to see the boutique foods, if you will, and then the functional diets that they and veterinary trade pushes, and the cost of these foods, which all of you can attest to, has gone through the ceiling many cases are surpasses the cost of our own food and our own di yes, and in the store over the last twenty years, almost twenty years since we opened my Paleopat and Fiesta Beteli, one of the things the most common comments that we got is that their animals were eating better than they were because they were spending more money on the food than they were on their own food.

8:20 So that's another area that has gone way up. And I have to ask, are we really going in the right direction with this stuff? Are those flea products, those heartworm products, those injectables that are supposed to prevent all these diseases, are they really working? Is the food that is supposed to be a super food, well balanced, scientifically formulated for optimal nutrition. Are they making our dogs healthier? Is it building up that immune system? If it is, then why has that lifespan gone from a dog from approximately fifteen to twenty one twenty two years of age on average two in many cases down to seven or eight years old. If it's making them healthier, why are we seeing more and more and more cases of all different types of cancers, diabetes? Why are our dogs going blind?

9:19 Why are do our dogs and cat's teeth require all kinds of extensive dental care now when they never used to. My opinion is is we have actually overdone what we think was good. We've been sold on the idea that the more you do, the better off you're going to be. But in my experience and in my opinion, the ones that benefit from all this preventive stuff is the people that sell it and the people that make it. When we look at something like heartworm, chances of your animal getting artworms is very slim in nature. In fact, nature somewhere's around three percent of all wild canines get heartworms.

10:05 And of course, if you're in anything in a you know north America and a northern part of the country. The summers are so short that realistically you're not going to have a problem with those mosquitoes casting on those heartworms. And yet you're giving this medication, and you're buying this medication to give for twelve months a year. The chances of them even becoming infected it might only be a thirty or sixty day window. The same thing is true with fleas. You don't find fleas in where I grew up Western New York. In the middle of winter time, fleas are under two feet three feet of snow, dead, frozen, you know, hoping for a very very hot and moist spring to be able to hatch out those eggs. Again, we're doing this these preventives twenty four seven, three sixty five, just on that front alone. Just looking at those procedures for those couple of vectors, if you will, you're looking at putting in a lot, a whole bunch of toxic chemicals.

11:17 Basically you're poisoning the animal. You're setting the animal up. They have poisonous blood for those insects, Well, you think those poisons are only going to work on the insect alone, that they're specific to fleas or heartworms. No, they kill all kinds of life, including the dog and cat. Many of the so called allergy symptoms that we see are nothing more than the body trying to eliminate the toxins that are in the body. Allergies are a form of detoxification, comes out through his skin and the coat and the ears, the anal glands, eye discharges, all kinds of secondary issues, and our way of attacking that is more toxic chemicals.

12:01 H do you think that might have a profound impact on the immune system of your precious pet. Do you think it's really necessary to keep embarding them with all these poisons. Now we have this toxic body that has to try to recover, that has to try to fight diseases. So now we can look at the injectables so called to prevent puppy diseases, adult diseases, flu all kinds of exotic disease conditions that the average household pat would never encounter. You know, on the side of some of these treatments, you take a disease like leptosepurosis, very very rare in captive animals. Wild animals can transmit and can be burdened by these diseases. However, the argument that's used is, Okay, even in the urban areas, you still have things like raccoon, and if it's carrier of liptoseporosis and it urinates and that urine gets into a puddle and your pet drinks the water, oh my god, you're going to have a problem with liptoseporosis. Well do we ever take and consider that in a healthy animal, the immune system actually takes care of a lot of these actually builds something called

13:32 antibodies to protect itself against these vectors, these diseases, that the body can actually heal itself, which is what it's designed to do. It's design to heal itself and rebuild itself. Do we replace almost every cell in our body on a regular basis, so you know, part of our approach is, of course, if I'm going to rebuild these cells, if I'm going to replace these cells, I want to replace them with healthy ones, not ones that are carrying poisons, not carrying oxen So again I asked the question, is more better? I don't think so. And as far as these products are concerned, I think we need to go back to essentially the one and done technique. My dog has got fleas. I treat for it. I kill them. Ticks, I remove them. If I'm going to do anything with heartworms, I'm going to do it in the season where they might be susceptible, and when I treat and when I use products to be able to control this, I want to look at how it's done in nature, because, let's face it, if these pleas and ticks and heartworms and all these other parasites, these worms and everything else were so so dangerous, there wouldn't be any wild animals left on the face of the earth. But you see, they've got an immune system that they builds over a lifetime, and actually it starts when they're conceived and built up and with the antibodies from mom's blood, and they can

15:03 fight it. They can take care of it. And when I look at something like fleas, they're only on that animal for a short time to get a blood meal. If the blood doesn't taste good to them, they move on. They don't want to eat healthy blood. They want an immune suppressed animal. 18:15 The chat room is open. If anybody wants to go ahead and jump in there and question me, that's fine. Comments. But as we were talking, we're talking about all these preventions and preventative treatments that we're being basically dell used with for our pets, and I have to ask the question, does anybody ever ask their pet what they want? I mean, I've seen cases where these topical flea products have been administered, dogs go into seizures, go into all kinds of shop and allergy symptoms almost immediately. I've seen it with some of these injections where animals have actually died right on the table after giving one of these. We have to take the animal's physiology into consideration. They cannot tell us verbally when a medication is doing, what a chemical is doing to their body, and because of this, we just kind of dump stuff on without really thinking or investigating looking at the insert to see what the side effects are, what the adverse events have been. Even reading things on social media and of the FDA site will tell us a lot of these things. You can go into the drug sites and quite often get a list of the side effects, which is very, very important. But we have to understand that we have to take their being into

19:47 consideration when we do this. Now, I did want to talk about the food products too. Again, life spans have been shortened. We know that food and water are both important to maintaining a healthy body. We've seen the commercialization of pet foods over the last seventy five years, and again we've seen the lifespans decreasing. Well, we're feeding our pets primarily out of our convenience. A coumple bits of kibble, dry food into a bowl, leave it in the corner. They'll eat when they want to, and they'll eat as much as they need until they get obese, and then we try to ration it. Basically, almost all those foods are carbohydrate based, which with a carnivore is especially deadly.

20:39 Those carbohydrates turn into sugars. Sugar causes inflammation. How many of you you have pets that have had hankreate titis, different skin ailments, irritable bowel syndrome. All of these things are symptoms of that inflammation that's caused by eating of carbohydrates. So we've lowered the threshold, if you will, of disease to set in because there is inflammation already in the body, and let's look at the nutrients. I've discussed this many many times on the show and when I was doing some research again, isn't it interesting that the scientific base for many of these pet foods stresses that they are highly nutritious, but yet you can't buy them for yourself.

21:29 You can't buy corn gluten meal, or chicken meal, or beef meal or pea starch because these are not foods. Basically, they're food waste. And when they look at it for a scientifically based formulation of food, they're looking at components, chemical components that are within that food. Could be a vitamin, could be a mineral. And in trying to balance out the body with very specifics, basically trying to micro manage that nutrition, we end up creating a monster, a monster that is killing our animals and shortening their life. Because the body's dynamic, it's always changing. So your nutritional needs, your dog's nutritional needs, you casts nutritional needs at any given time vary extreme. Sometimes they need more protein because they're using their muscles in a heavier work manner, whether it's running and playing. You know, sometimes they all need less because they're napping and sleeping most of the time.

22:37 The big thing with this nutrition now is we have to figure in that inflammation that's being caused by the food itself. It's creating stress on the body because the body can't break it down properly. It's got to make extra digestive enzymes, overworking the pancreas. Gee, I think I just mentioned pancreatitis as an inflammation to the pancreas. Do you think that might be caused by overworking it. Oh and by the way, that also has to make insulin to regulate that sugar. Hence, we have more diabetic dogs and cats now than we're ever had in the history of the industry. What is the natural diet for that animal? Can you imagine taking our using another carnivore, if you will, is a snake. You can't feed snakes kibbl. It doesn't work, can't digest it, they die. So many other issues they go with kibbl especially dry foods. They're dry, creating dehydration in our pets. We have muched the same problem with our own diets. We are generally dehydrated. And you know I talk about water on other programs. Here about using ionized water and different phs depending on what kind of problems we have going on. But that's the problem is when we're using dead water, they don't drink enough, and when they don't drink enough, we're not flow rushing the body out. And then you throw in that kibble, that dry food, and when you add water to it, when they go to that water bowl and start gulping it down,

24:09 that kibble has to absorb that water and it swells up and actually can cause blockages and all kinds of other gastric problems which will impair elimination hooping, if you will, And because the body is going to try to get rid of this bad food very very quickly, this is a secondary problem that the manufacturers of these foods have diarrhea loose running stools. Now, the stool is supposed to be soft and slightly formed so that when they have to go in nature, they just get very very quick easy, no straining, because if you're taking too long in that position, you're gonna be somebody else's dinner. But our manufacturers thought that we need to clean up all the time after our dogs. We can't let it actually go back into the ground as fertilizer, which every other animal on the face of the earth does. But so they add stool hardening agents to food to make it easier for you to pick up. That was actually the sales pitch back in the nineteen seventies for doing it. But again, when we're looking at a monolistic diet like that, the same food day and day out, day and day out, we build toxicity, we build allergies, and this of course is going to play on the backside of the animal. So are we really doing a service to that animal? How many of you have it run into problems where you've been suggested a certain food. Dog just won't eat it,

25:42 cat just won't eat it. Where is all that scientific research? It just went down the toilet, didn't it. Literally, because the animal is not eating, it's not going to eat what it needs to based on their scientific formulation. The FDA came out with a statement recently that in order for those diets to work, even short term on a daily basis, on a single day, you would have to feed the exact amount that's prescribed. The animal would have to eat the exact amount that's prescribed, would have to have limitations in the activity level to what the study was set up for and in order to work. So essentially what they said is commercial scientific diets do not work for overall health. They may keep your dog alive, they may keep your cat alive, but are they healthy, are they happy? Are they thriving? Are they in ultimate health?

26:40 Are from it? Again, we go back to the basics. What do they eat in nature? What was their body designed to digest. That's a very very important part of this because if we're not putting in bioavailable foods and bioavailable water, essentially the energy level to maintain a strong immune system is going to be low. We're not going to be replacing those cells with healthy cells. We're going to be replacing them with contaminated cells. And when you look at something like cancer, that's really what cancer is is the form cells. We're gonna be right back after this quick break.

Now I've discussed things like warmers and fleet products and different rejectable preventions along with the diets that most people are using today for their animals. As you can hopefully see that we're creating a situation where our animals are not as healthy as they should be. We're not creating that ultimate health experience, if you will. We're not giving them the energy to keep building their body and to perform at their very very best to stay healthy, if you will, to fight off the cancers, to fight off the diabetes and the parasites, and to fight off naturally occurring diseases.

29:54 It's a shame that we don't think of it this way, that we do not take charge of our pets health. We leave it to somebody else. All these changes have occurred in basically the last fifty years. I've watched it all change. I've watched it all happening, and I deal with it every day with our consultations and our recommendations that we provide, both with my paleo patent with Biocomplete, and the referrals that we get from other health professionals. But what I find most interesting is when people look at feeding a species appropriate diet like a raw meat diet, Number one complaint is expensive bill I can't afford it or I don't think I can afford it. Well. One of the things that I counsel people on is if you're going to be especially rescuing animals, make sure you have the budget to be able to take care of them properly, not give them all this improper stuff. But on the other side of it, let's look at that veterinary budget. What can you cut out and not put your animal at risk? Because that's what we're all afraid of, because we've been sold fear. If you don't do this, your animal will get sick, your animal will die. We have literally thousands of animals that have come through what we do and that we're given very very short lifespans, bad prognosis, you know, sometimes as little as weeks or

31:26 days to live that with just making simple changes, stop spending the dollars at the animal hospital and started spending it on good diets and good clean botanicals to build the healthy body that live many many years. We have to take charge of that. We have to learn about that. That's why I'm here, That's why I ask you to share this with your your friends and neighbors. These are questions that I normally get during the consultations and in the store. Like I say, you need to be budgeting in the very beginning, before you adopt that animal, or before you purchase that animal, make sure that you can do it the right way. You know, it's nice that you want to get your care and that you want to be helpful and try to save an animal, but if you save them only to go through an unhealthy, miserable existence, of unhealthiness, of pain, of suffering, then you really haven't rescued an animal. What I talk about is not in that mainstream medical community. But then again, health is not about medicine. That's what people forget. There's not a wild animal that is strictly in the wild, that goes to the doctor, that gets prescriptions, that gets medications, and we see them live and in most cases thrive

32:58 without it. It's only when we start interfering with our concepts, with our so called science, that everything gets messed up. You know, when we eliminated the predators, and you know, the suburbs started to grow, the habitat change, deer populations went through the ceiling, and then people are very very upset because the deer are reading all their expensive landscaping, and on the other side of that, they are being forced to have that expensive landscaping because of zoning laws. It's a lot of control by other people, including the doctors, including the pharmaceutical companies, including the government. All these we have to take into consideration. We have to start looking at the inserts in all these drugs, in all these preventions, and then start to weigh at I monitor a couple of different groups on the Internet and social media, and one happens to be one or two of them happened to delve into and support dogs that have seizures. And yet the questions that I see is what is the safest flea product, tick product, heartworm product, medication that I can use on my seizured animal. And yet all the products that are being discussed cause seizures. That's one of the side effects. So you have to ask yourself, what's going to create more discomfort for your animal, for your pat Those fleas, three or four fleas running around on

34:30 his body, having a blood meal, or going into a seizure. That's a choice you have to make as a pet owner if you're looking at preventing those fleas, And to be honest, the only prevention for fleas is either living in an environment where there are none, or build a healthy immune system that will normally repel them. Let the fleas get on the deer and the rats and the mice and other animals in the wild, and they handle them every single day without issue. If you're putting a chemical on and I know, you know, looking back in the past, they used to use different high toxic dips to kill parasites, ectoparasites, and they still do it on a lot of major livestock. And some of these chemicals actually burn their skin. That's not what we want for our pets, you know. And I haven't even looked at it.

35:23 A lot of the other things, the shampoos, the conditioners, all these products that ultimately change the physiology of their body, the chemistry of their body into an unhealthy way. If I shampoo my animal too often and use a harsh shampoo, I'm stripping off all the natural oils and they're going to be more susceptible to skin issues. If the body is trying to rebuild that thermal layer, that coat that hair, it's taking away nutrition. It has to go to the heart, the liver, the pancreas, the kidneys, and even the gut to digest the food. So if we're starting out with a bad food and we now have another health issue, the resources aren't going into proper digestion or the other way around. It's not going to take care of the skin problem or the joint problem. The whole body is a system. It has to work together. That's what we have to try to accomplish. This is why we do what we do at my palaeopet. That's why we do what we do.
